XL Marks
Managing
Marks & Courses in Excel. Free for use in schools!
XL Marks is a set of two Excel templates that will make managing
marks and courses much easier. You get to use the power of a software package you already
own, without needing to understand it fully.
Because your marks will be stored in an Excel file, and not some proprietary format,
you can use Excel's powerful features to analyze, graph and manipulate them if you wish.
The XL MARKS template allows you to manage the marks of one class.
- Up to 37 students can be included in any one class.
- Up to 20 assessments can be recorded for each student.
- Assessments can be given any title.
- Assessments can be "out-of" any desired amount.
- Each assessment can be given an individual "weight" towards the final total.
- Each assessment can be allocated to one of three subtotals (eg. Tests, Assignments and
Exams).
- A student marked as absent for any assessment has all other assessments re weighted
automatically to allow for the absence.
- Means and standard deviations for each assessment are automatically calculated.
- Students can be sorted alphabetically or by total at the push of a button.
- The marks sheet replaces your marks book. You can write marks directly onto the sheet
and update the computer file periodically.
If you are trying to manage a course with more than one class, it is better to use the
XLCOURSE template. This template collects six of the XLMarks templates into one file and
allows you to centrally allocate assessments and weightings as well as automatically
compiling marks into one location for easy sorting and grading.
- Up to six classes can be included in any one course.
- Each teacher has their own marks sheet to work from within the one file. The teacher's
mark sheet is the same as the XLMarks template.
- Assessments, weightings and subtotals are entered centrally on a summary sheet and are
automatically propagated to each teacher's marks sheet. This eliminates most errors in
calculation.
- The mean and standard deviation are automatically calculated for each assessment item
including results from all classes.
- Push a Compile button to automatically collect marks from every teacher's sheet and put
them in one place. The marks can then be sorted by total, alphabetically or back into
class lists all with the push of a button.
- Students are automatically graded based on cutoffs you enter into the computer.
- The computer automatically calculates a grade summary showing how many students in each
grade level and the percentage of the total cohort.
- All sheets are formatted to produce clear and comprehensive reports.
XL Marks will run on any computer running Excel Version 5.0 or later. It is compatible
with Windows 95 and Excel 95.
Efofex Software will, on request, provide the password for XL Marks to allow you to modify it. Please note that the templates are very complicated and you will require a very high level of Excel knowledge to successfully modify them. If you do successfully modify the templates you are NOT authorised to distribute your modified templates for profit. You MUST supply them on a freeware basis. Any modified version must retain the Efofex copyright notice but you may add your own copyright notice to the template
